5TH ANNUAL WORKSHOP ON APPLICATION OF COMMERCIAL QUALITY STANDARDS FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN KENYA 24th NOVEMBER to 26th NOVEMBER 2014, KEPHIS Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya

The Workshop was officially opened on 24th November 2014, by Mr. Zakayo Magara Director Horticultural Crops Directorate on behalf of the MD KEPHIS Dr. Esther Kimani. 35 participants from county government, KEPHIS, MOALF, PCPB, HCD, KEBS and private sector drawn from Keitt exporters, Vegpro and East Africa Growers were present. The workshop increased knowledge of fruits and vegetables quality standards; it stressed the importance of strengthening the institutional and technical infrastructure for standards implementation and use, with the establishment of related systems of conformity assessment; it also gave participants an opportunity to interact further on the progress and challenges faced in the application and adoption of standards. Participants resolved to continue holding such workshops regularly for information exchange and feedback on progress after the workshop. It is hoped that through this workshop all the stakeholders will therefore apply fresh fruits and vegetable standards and other standards during trade.
