Study Tour for Staff of Plant Protection and Regulatory services, Ghana, 7thJuly to 11thJuly 2014

The National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) of Ghana which is Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) nominated two of its officers to visit Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS), Kenya’s National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) from 7th July to 11th July 2014.

 

 

The study tour was in response to recommendations made by UNIDO expert from the EU. The officers were to understudy and discuss issues relating to accreditation as EU competent Authority (Article 15 of EU Regulation 543/2011), how an approved competent authority operates, and visit areas of interest in order to understand and appreciate the actual activities carried out by KEPHIS, an existing approved EU competent authority in the field of horticulture. Objectiveof the tour was to enhance inspectors understanding to know how to attain accreditation as EU competent authority (Article 15 of EU Regulation 543/2011). Outputof the tour was updated knowledge and skills on NPPO Regulatory administrative processes, methods of inspection, awareness creation of new market requirements; Discussed areas of future training programs, frequency of training and testing regimes for inspectors.
