PRA training for Zimbabwe NPPO, 10th to 12th December, 2013 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

COPE together with FANRPAN organized a three day workshop in Zimbabwe on 10th to 12th December, 2013 at Mandel Training Centre, Harare. where the NPPO staff of Zimbabwe were sensitized on PRA. The specific training objectives were:To create awareness on the importance of pest risk analysis in phytosanitary systems; To sensitize participants on the sources of PRA information; To understand the various steps in PRA process and to enhance skills in the use of PRA tools.

This three day course took 16 trainees from the Zimbabwean NPPO through theory classes and practical hands-on training on PRA; and a final evaluation was done at the close of the course. The trainers were Mr George Momanyi, a PRA specialist from KEPHIS/COPE and Mr Nhamo Mudada, a Chief Plant Quarantine Officer, Plant Quarantine Services Institute. The course covered principles of PRA, sources of PRA information, Tools for PRA and stages in PRA. During the practical training, the participants were introduced to PRA CPC software as a tool for conducting PRA. In addition the participants undertook a PRA initiation and categorization for bean seed imports from Zambia, Malawi and Swaziland into Zimbabwe, through hands on practical and presentations.
