Diploma in phytosanitary measures.

Target audience
The target clients include phytosanitary practitioners, extensions providers, and secondary school leavers.

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to build a critical mass of middle level professionals with knowledge and skills to support the application of phytosanitary measures to international trade.
The specific objectives are:

  • To impart knowledge and skills to trainees in order to ensure that agricultural products are consistent and conform to international, regional and national phytosanitary standards.
  • To ensure that the trainees understand the relevant international phytosanitary agreements and standards and their application.
  • To ensure that the trainees have an understanding of the concepts, obligations and responsibilities of the National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs).

Admission Requirements
The following shall be eligible for admission for the diploma course:

  • Holders of KCSE with mean grade of C plain and C- pass in any of the following subjects: biology, chemistry, agriculture, or physics.
  • Holders of KCE with division II and at least a pass in biology or chemistry, or physics or agriculture, or physical science or mathematics.
  • Holders of KACE with at least one Principal level pass and one subsidiary pass in biology or chemistry or physics or mathematics.
  • Holders of certificate in agricultural, biological or environmental sciences.
  • Holders of Diploma, Higher diploma or degree in any natural or biological sciences from institutions recognized by senate

Course Duration
The course to be offered on full time and part time basis. The length of the course shall be two academic years full time or four academic years part time.
