International Phytosanitary Conference 12th to 16th September 2016 at KEPHIS Headquarters, Karen, Nairobi

COPE under KEPHIS will host the International Phytosanitary Conference in Africa which will be held from 12 to 16 September 2016, at KEPHIS Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of the conference is “Phytosanitary Regulation for Improved Trade Facilitation and Food Security”. The conference will create an opportunity for around 100 participants from the NPPOs and those dealing with agricultural trade especially in the horticultural industry to share their success as well as challenges encountered. The conference will also offer the participants an opportunity to discuss emerging issues such as maximum residue levels (MRLs), invasive species, pest outbreaks e.g. maize lethal necrosis disease, bactrocera invadens, banana bacterial wilt among others. The conference will also create linkages for promoting market access and identifying potential areas of cooperation on phytosanitary regulation at regional and international levels. The thematic areas of the conference will focus on import control and quarantine regulations, pest surveillance in phytosanitary systems, application of PRA in phytosanitary decision making, pest identification, export control in phytosanitary systems, technologies and innovation in phytosanitary systems, capacity building and communication in phytosanitary systems and emerging challenges and market requirements.
