Training on Tissue Culture Technology for Sustainable Production of SweetPotato Planting Material for Central, Eastern & Southern Africa Held on 20th To 24th July 2015 at KEPHIS Plant Quarantine and Biosecurity Station

International Potato Center (CIP), requested KEPHIS through Centre for Phytosanitary Excellence (COPE) to host and conduct a training course on “Tissue Culture Technology for Sustainable Production of Sweetpotato Planting Material”. The five day training held in Plant Quarantine & Biosecurity Station was conducted from 20th - 24th July 2015 and the main objective was to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills in tissue culture induction, micropropagation, acclimatization and screen house multiplication. 12 Participants who attended the training had been nominated by the National Agricultural Research Institutes from: Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya and Mozambique. The participants were expected to use and pass the skills on to colleagues their new skills in the production of Pre-basic sweetpotato seed.
